I’ve had a hard week, so I took the afternoon off and went kiting at Scusset Beach with Rob. Ed and George were there also, although unfortunately they didn’t get much riding in. Totally gnar conditions, wind was direct onshore, some of the waves were well overhead. And, I’m glad to say, I totally rocked it. The wind and waves were at the perfect angle to do huge kite-assisted aerials on the waves. At one point, the wave sectioned right in front of me, and I somehow managed this ginormous aerial over the section, with a grab, and right back into the wave. I thought I’d died and woke up in Kelly Slater’s Pro Surfer, and it was awesome. Although lets be realistic, I got slammed hard by pleeeeenty of breaking waves.
I was glad to see the practice I’ve been putting into carving turns this summer has really paid off. I had a couple good wave rides where I was bottom turning and cutting back super smoothly. I also had one weird moment riding out into some waves, when I was in the middle of switching my stance and completely forgot which stance was my good stance, and which was my bad. That was a nice feeling.
Oh yeah, and I landed this sick super-slow backroll with a nice boost from the kite. I’ve never previously been able to land a rotation while boosting with the kite.
