Wind Log: June 25th, 2007

Perfect session tonight with David and Bob. Good wind, nice little waves perfect for ramps, lots of big jumps. Definitely the best session of the year so far. I was powered enough that I could boost super high, but not overpowered so I could also ride really fast. I did this pretty funny heelside roundhouse on a wave, where I grabbed the toe rail of the board like I was a real surfer, ha ha. Also did a couple big, mostly accidental, rotational jumps and landed them. Killer.

Went to Waquoit this afternoon with Dr. MacDonald. Wind was really gusty but I had a pretty good time. Did a few good jumps, a few decent jumps, and a bunch of bad jumps. I also landed a double backroll, that was pretty cool. Going to be windy again tomorrow, hopefully I can get some more riding in.

Took a vacation hour from work this afternoon, and headed to Wood Neck. Had a good time, although in hindsight, I could have put up my 9 and had a better time. But still got in nearly 2 hours of riding and had fun. Did a couple nice boosts, a nice, big, slow backroll, and a bunch of terrible raileys. Waves were nice, too.

Went to Chappy with Ruth and Christina today, and I’m glad I brought my kite gear with me. It thermaled right around 2:00, and I was really lit on my 11. I could/should have been riding my 122, but I left that in the car. Did some big jumps and had a good time, although I forgot that I was wearing my sunglasses, and lost them :(

Winds were out of the North today, but we decided to go to Waquoit anyways. It wasn’t that great, but it also really wasn’t bad, Dr. MacDonald and I found a good spot in the SW corner of the bay over near Washburn Island and had a good time. I could stay upwind for the most part, but didn’t have enough power to try any tricks.

Wind Log: June 7th, 2007

The wind was really West tonight, so I went to Wood Neck (wearing booties this time) and had a good time. When I left the house, it was blowing 20 at Chappy, but by the time I got to Wood Neck it had dropped down to the mid to lower teens. Unfortunately, since it was so windy when I left, I only packed my 9. I was underpowered, so I just did downwinders to Black’s, and tried new tricks. I successfully did a couple hoochie glides and an unhooked backroll. I attempted riding blind (”What’s that? Kiting with your eyes closed?” -Ruth) but didn’t have even remote success.

Went out to Wood Neck this evening. Wind was too far South, I should have been up at Chappy, but I was already at Wood Neck so I went ahead and rigged. Got out through the wind shadow fine and had a good time. Did a couple decent raileys off waves, and did the biggest boost I have ever done.

Wind gusted right when I sent the kite and nailed a wave, and I ended up really high. Based on the hangtime vs. some 20′ jumps I’ve done, I want to say I was pushing 30′ but there were no witnesses and I have no real way of telling. I swung the kite back-and-forth two more times before I hit the water, each with a little bump I think. After 7 or 8 seconds of wondering how I was going to get down, I somehow managed to land it and ride off victorious.

Getting back through the wind shadow sucked though. I cut my foot really bad on a barnacle or maybe glass. I’m not riding Wood Neck again unless the wind is really West.

Big session at Waquoit today, I kited nonstop from 3 until almost 7. Really powered up on my 11, and had a great time. Did several really big jumps, did a lot of unhooked stuff, and then got a boat ride back from Mike. Awesome day to spend at the beach, and I finally got out of my booties! Nice!

So lieWindsurf forecasted it to nuke today, so I came down from Boston to enjoy it. Unfortunately, nukage never really materialized. At all. In fact, it was in the single digits for most of the night. However, shockingly I was able to stay upwind for most of the night on my new 11 Waroo Pro and my Drop 136. That’s pretty disgusting. I can’t wait to take that kite out in like…15…it’s going to rip! Ha ha.

Wind Log: May 15th, 2007

Went kiting tonight at Wood Neck. Wind was really nukin’, and was too strong for my 9m. Hanu was there, so I launched him, and then hung out on the beach to land him. He had to go, but let me borrow his 7m Waroo! What a guy. I should buy him a 6-pack or something.
